Free Credit Report
You have the right to obtain a free
credit report. The Fair Credit Reporting Act has been
amended recently to allow you to have a free copy of
your credit report once a year from one of the major
credit reporting companies: TransUnion, Experian, and
Equifax. You also have the right to pay, more than once
per year, for additional copies of your credit report so
you can monitor your credit. There is only one place to
obtain a free credit report.
There are two ways to getting your free credit report.
The first is by calling in for a free copy annd the
second is by writing in for a free copy. Due to the
numerous requests, the three major credit reporting
companies have devised one toll-free number for you to
get your annual, free copy of your credit report. If you
prefer to call in for your free report, simply dial
1-877-322-8228. You can also request in writing by
filling in the form at the end of this article and
mailing it to: Annual Credit Report Request Service, PO
Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.
Though you can request from the
individual companies themselves a copy of your credit
report, it won’t necessarily be free because TransUnion,
Experian, and Equifax have joined together to form the
central telephone number, and mailing address which will
permit you to have your free annual credit report.
